Skin Vitalizing Essence

Aquatic Life-inspired Packaging Design

Aquatic Life was conceptualized after a backpacking trip in 2016 when graphic designer Ji Eun Jang and painter Jamie Lee went to the oceanside of South Korea. Ji Eun was struck by the thought of microorganisms from the oceans living in our skin and associated the brush strokes and color from Jamie's painting with Prebiotics' elements as the organic lifeforms embedded within us.

This design, created by Ji Eun Jang, showcases the Skin Vitalizing Essence with a unique and captivating packaging design. Inspired by the beauty of aquatic life, this cosmetic product stands out with its revitalizing and organic complexity.

The design incorporates parts of Jamie Lee's abstract acrylic art piece, representing the "ecosystem" of organisms present in Prebiotics7. The raw brush strokes, defined details, and playful color scheme create an enticing visual that exudes both class and accessibility.

Ji Eun translated Jamie's painting into a digital format using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The design was then applied to glossy paper packaging, with Reflex Blue as the main background color to evoke a deep ocean feel. The lettering was applied using hot stamping to add texture, while gold foil was used to create a glitter effect. The finished product packaging features embossed Prebiotics and TMC-P lettering, further enhancing its visual appeal.

With dimensions of 2 x 2 x 7.9 inches, this cosmetic product is not only visually stunning but also practical in its design.

The Skin Vitalizing Essence packaging invites consumers to view it as an art piece first, before recognizing it as a cosmetic product. The gold foil reflects light, providing contrast to the dark blue background and evoking a sense of quality and class. The clearly defined lettering maintains the complexity and feeling of the art, while also conveying important product information.

The project started in December 2015, with the updated design released on June 1, 2017. Throughout the design process, Ji Eun faced the challenge of translating Jamie Lee's art into a consumer-friendly visual while retaining its original beauty and aura. The result is a design that represents the "good bacteria" and exudes brilliance and energy.

This outstanding design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. It is recognized for its well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Skin Vitalizing Essence packaging design contributes to a better world by integrating industry best practices and competent technical features.
